Festive Colored Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup Crisco

1 ¼ cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Crayola Food Coloring

Sugar for rolling

Preparation

  1.  Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and
    salt.  Stir with a whisk to combine.
  3. In the bowl of stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the Crisco
    and sugar over medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla and mix just until combined.
  5. Add the flour mixture and mix just until combined.
  6. Divide mixture into three bowls.  Add enough food coloring to reach desired color and, using your hands, combine until dough is evenly colored.
  7. Using a small cookie scoop, portion dough into your hand, roll into a ball and
    then roll in sugar.  Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven, allow to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before
    transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.
